Meme coin basics · answered 2026-09-19

How do I check if a meme coin is a scam?

Five checks catch most of them. Honeypot: can holders sell at all? Mintable: can the deployer print more supply? Taxes: a sell tax above a few percent, or one the owner can change, is a trap. Liquidity: is it locked or burned, and is there enough that you can exit? Concentration: if the top five wallets hold most of the supply, one of them can end the market.

MemeSwap runs these checks on every token page and shows the answers next to the chart, plus an activity screen for wash trading. Read honeypot tokens, rug pull warning signs and how to verify a contract.

Meme coins are highly volatile and can lose all of their value; nothing on this page is investment advice.
